Signs of the Decline of Civilization

This Decline of Civilization moment is brought to you by Hormel Chili(TM):

Apparently, a generation has grown up where no-one knows how to use a can-opener or bottle-opener or even a stove. Look around; the store shelves are full of bottles with twist-off caps, the cans are pull-tops, and there is a EasyBakeOven(TM) for roasting your kid's ShrinkyDinks(TM)! Now I find that Hormel Chili with Beans(TM) has the recipe for making Frito(TM) Pie on the label! (But the brats still need a can opener to get out the chili!)

PS Only 18 more days before Drunk Irishman Day!

I'm offended pt 2

I noticed this yesterday at work: we sell a t-shirt which says "I [shamrock] BEER." It was cute at the time, a substitution of a shamrock for the usual heart where the word "love" would be. Today I started ranting about it. About how it further perpetuates the racial stereotype of the drunken Irishman. We're not selling shirts making fun of the old stereotypes of the lazy Mexican, or the uneducated Black, or the stingy Jew, or the overachieving Asian, but the drunken Irishman's OK!

FYI, you have only 37 more days to get your "Happy Drunken Irishman Day" shirts! :P

I'm offended pt 1

During the Super Bowl(TM),every time they mentioned who was in the halftime show, they never said Sir Paul McCartney, always Paul McCartney.
Is someone somewhere deciding that the Constitutional thing about "no foreign titles" applies toward foreigners visiting here too? There are times when the romantic part of me thinks royalty would be a nice thing to have stateside... then there are other times when the libertarian side of me wants to bitchslap that other part for being a damnfool!

Anyway, I thought the halftime show was the best part of the whole blasted thing, quickly followed by the Anheiser-Busch commercial of the returning soldiers getting a standing ovation at the airport... the rest I didn't care about.

On a lark pt 2

My wife posted some more quizes, and I found a slightly different one, "Blades!":
Take the quiz: "Blades!"

Pocket Knife
You are utility. You can adapt to any situation and face many adversities.
Pity it didn't actually say Swiss Army knife! ;) (Tho it does look like one!)

Damn! This one's spot on:
Take the quiz: "Which Syndicated Radio Talkshow Host Are You?"

Art Bell
You are Art Bell. You may be relegated to the night, but you like it that way. Screw politics or current events. You much prefer the esoteric, spiritualistic, and intellectual issues.

Since Memphis is the only Southern city listed in their possible answers (besides Orlando), I guess I should be happy with it:
Take the quiz: "Which American City Are You?"

Memphis
Belt Buckles and Boots. You'll give a hoot and hollar but you 'll never give up your core values.

They're interesting, but how accurate can a test be when it only asks three or four questions? Like the "Which Holy Grail Character are You?" quiz, it said I'm the Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog, but looking at the results I am also the Knight who Says Ni, and Sir Not Appearing (one point each).

On a lark...

I took a couple of the tests on my wife's blog (see below, The Missus' Blog).
My results are:
pg
What rating is your journal?

brought to you by Quizilla

Which "Natural Wonder" are you?

Hmm, only PG? I thought I cussed more than that...

Libertarian stuff...

I just took the Libertarian Purity Test, and I scored a 78. Their scale says:
"51-90 points: You are a medium-core libertarian, probably self-consciously so. Your friends probably encourage you to quit talking about your views so much."

I found this on the page of the Wyoming Libertarian Party, after finding the Free State Wyoming and Wyoming Free State projects. It's an interesting idea, an alternative to the national LP's New Hampshire "Free State Project"(TM) (and if nothing else, libertarians always want a choice!), a plan for 20,000 libertarians to move to NH with the intent of voting and changing local and eventually the state government into something more libertarian in nature, i.e. less government, more personal responibility and freedom!
However, as one of the leading idea contributors to the Wyoming Project pointed out, NH's population is nearly one and a fifth million, and WY's is 500,000, 2.5x less, and it would be much more effective for any number (esp. a large one) of libertarians to move to WY over NH, simply because their votes wouldn't be diluted as badly and they would have more chance of succeeding in their goal of establishing a libertarian state government! Already, the Wyoming state government is more friendly to the People (remember, We the People, who gave the politicians their stinkin' jobs?) in considering amending their Concealed Weapons laws to allow "Vermont-style" carry, that is, ANY CITIZEN without any felonies to carry a concealed weapon, without any special license. (Bad Guys, watch the f**k out!)

The Missus' Blog

The wife's got a new and improved blog, the Phoenix's Fire. Hers is more personal, while this one is more current events/political commentary (and escape from the same).

Ah, but for more like him...

No stupid cheese-eatin' surrender monkeys here! A good blog by an irreverent,anti-stupid-frogs Frenchman, the Dissident Frogman. Especially the day he remembered Joe and Tommy, and some schmucks that grafitti-ed a WW1 memorial.
