Confederate Heroes Day and Challenger rememberance
Thursday of last week was Texas Confederate Heores day, and I had meant to post this then, but didn't have any pics to go with it. So here it is, the Beaumont monument to our Confederate Heroes:
Today was the 20th anniversary of the Space Shuttle Challenger exploding mid-launch. I was only in 7th grade, and was not in one of the classes getting to watch the launch that morning, so when folks were talking amongst themselves about the shuttle blowing up, I thought "They're making stuff up to mess with me." I didn't really believe it until I got home and watched the near-continuous replay on TV, as the talkin heads tried to guess what went wrong. I woke up the next morning, thinking it was all a bad dream until I saw the special edition newspaper from the day before. I still tear up when I think about it too much.
